Antelope Tapes
A live and studio-based instrumental project by Mitchell Withers, Matt Slocomb, Dylan Crosbie, Tom Allum and Matt Power
Through collaborative field and studio recordings, the band produces what one reviewer described as “the soundtrack to an unwritten tragedy, complete with dramatic tension, polarising mood and inexplicable subtlety.”
Their songs tell the story of an enduring collaboration through guitars, samples and percussion to create emotive journeys that deliver both live and on record. In 2011, the group launched into a busy gigging schedule with both national and international supports, including Holy Fuck (Can), A Place To Bury Strangers (USA), Tangled Thoughts of Leaving (Aus) and Sleepmakeswaves (Aus). In 2013 Antelope released their debut self-titled EP at the Bakery to a large and dedicated local audience.
“When listening to this, I can picture the sun gleaming, birds chirping, and the whole town joining together in a giant flash-mob sing-along.”
– The Spread, March 2013
“…opening a world of imagery for the audience’s collective mind to explore.”
- Kane Sutton, The Music, July 2013
Consistent live shows continued until 2015 when the band played In The Pines festival. As other creative and personal endeavours began to take priority for band members, Antelope Tapes entered a phase of dormancy.
In 2023 the band began to write and perform again, drawing upon over 10 years of archival jam recordings and demos. A full-length album of this material is the focus for the band in 2024.
